Schedule
Panel 1
1 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
Preceded by a video address from William Safire, a Syracuse University trustee and alumnus, the summit will be opened with framing remarks by University Chancellor and President Nancy Cantor. The following panel discussion, moderated and facilitated by David Crane, will start by focusing on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. The dialogue will then expand, introducing the expertise of all panel members to focus on possibilities for common ground. This "unfolding dialogue" will initiate an ongoing process of understanding, fueled by the experiences and knowledge of individuals committed to the struggle of bridging divides.
Panel 2
3 p.m. to 4:25 p.m.
Syracuse University Professor Tazim Kassam will frame the second session with an address focusing on the urgent need for understanding between cultures. In the following discussion, David Crane, joined by co-facilitator Diane Weathers, will expand the dialogue to include the larger community, represented by audience members present at the event, as well as those viewing it at Syracuse University centers throughout the world, and via the Internet. In this way, participants will be drawn together to focus on potential community solutions, addressing what can be done globally-as well as locally-to bridge the divides that prevent mutually acceptable resolution to conflict. The dialogue will explore the possibilities for individuals and other entities, such as businesses and universities, to build a ripple effect leading to positive global change. Syracuse University Chancellor Nancy Cantor will bring the panel discussions to a close with remarks focusing on future directions.
