Summit Overview
"Small World/Big Divides: Building Bridges in an Age of Extremes" is an urgent response to the increasingly fractured façade of world peace. This international summit will critically discuss what solutions for peace are working, which ones are not, and then establish a foundation for strategies that can be successful in the "real world."
Recognizing that current global conflicts are multi-dimensional, Syracuse University will act as a site of convergence, bringing together national and international leaders approaching the discussion from a range of perspectives including, but not limited to, government, religion, education, non-governmental organizations, and the arts.
On October 18, 2006, consecutive "rapid exchange" panel discussions will initiate a rigorous, ongoing effort to find practical solutions for the tensions that threaten our interwoven world.
"Small World/Big Divides" will take place from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Goldstein Auditorium in the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center. The event is free and open to the public; however, seating is limited. Tickets can be reserved by phone, 1-866-933-3334, or via e-mail, bridges@syr.edu.
Following the afternoon summit, Syracuse University and the University Union Concert Board will sponsor a concert featuring Matisyahu (headliner); Kenny Muhammad, the Human Orchestra; and State Radio. The concert will continue the discussions of the day by promoting peace and social engagement. Tickets for the concert are $32/$52, available at Ticketmaster.com and at the Landmark Theatre Box Office. Tickets are also available at the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center Box Office on the Syracuse University campus until Tuesday, October 17.
